You will need 240m of Double Knit yarn, a set of 3.75mm dpns and a 3.75mm 40cm long circular needle.
This is a straightforward hat with a Cable and Lace pattern, knitted in the round in Double Knit yarn. The hat pattern has three baby and two adult sizes. The wristwarmers come in two adult sizes. The small size would also make a great pair of baby legwarmers!
Jemima is an unashamedly vintage / old fashioned baby bonnet. Sometimes Jemima looks positively Elizabethan given the chance with a bit of vintage linen and lace. Ideal as a christening bonnet / fancy outfit bonnet or just for everyday if you’re that way inclined.
The front band for Jemima is worked first, then stitches picked up along one edge and the crown knitted flat onto the band. The ties and i-cord edging are then worked onto the bottom edge of the bonnet. Sized to fit: 0-3(3-6, 6-12) months. Yarn: Town End Alpacas 100% Alpaca DK . 1 x 50g ball. Shown in Mid Fawn.
Based on our rather dashing Sca Fell Peak hat we give you Jeremy, a super-cute peaked cap for babies and toddlers. In these colours Jeremy is rather masculine, but you could make a lovely girly Jeremy in Ivory with a pink and cream pompom or with a pink bow instead.
Tension: 21 sts and 27 rows to 10cm over stocking stitch in the round on 4mm needles. Tension for band: 18 sts and 36 rows to 10cm over garter st in the round on 4.5mm nds with yarn held double. Finished size: 33(37, 41.5)cm / 12½(14½, 16⅓)”. Yarn: Town End Pure Natural DK Alpaca, or Thames Alpaca Blend DK.
Single colour hat: 1 x 50g ball. 4-colour hat: 1 x 50g ball of each colour, shown in Dark Fawn, Ivory, Light Mid Fawn and Pewter.
4mm and 4.5mm dpns / circular needles, OR the size required to give you the correct tension. It might be easier to knit the Peak on straights or circs, but the rest of the hat is entirely up to your preference for knitting small diameters in the round.
Your preferred needle / latch hook for darning ends in.
Canterberet is a classic beret with a garter stitch band and then radiating ribbing making up the crown. Amazingly we resisted a pompom on this one and went with a bow instead (knitted on from the last few crown stitches, so no sewing). Easily made into a classic beret ‘stalk’, though, if you don’t fancy a bow.
Tension: 20sts and 40 rows to 10cm over garter stitch on 4mm nds after steaming / wet blocking. We rarely wet block, but for the Canterberet you really do need to, and over a plate to boot to make the proper beret shape. We used a 25.5cm(10″) dinner plate.
Finished size: to fit adult female head, 51 – 58cm (20 – 23″) circumference after blocking.
We’ve knitted this using 70g Town End Pure Natural DK in Pewter with Luxury Alpaca Blends in Rosie. it also works well in Alpaca with Bamboo as this yarn really shows up the stitch detail.
Needles – 3.25mm and 4mm circs / dpns (depending on your personal preference for knitting small diameters in the round) OR the size required to give you the correct tension. Your preferred needle / latch hook for darning ends in.
.This hat is knitted in the round using colourwork technique in double knit yarn. The instructions contain child, small adult (neat fit) and large (slouchy fit). The illustration shows an optional fur pompom – extra yarn is required to make a pompom.
