Whitbarrow Alpaca Fingering Yarn – Lady’s Smock

£18.50

‘Whitbarrow’ is an Alpaca Fingering weight yarn.  We have combined alpaca with Merino wool and silk to produce a Fingering knitting yarn in an exclusive blend which has been spun for us in the UK.  This luxurious Fingering weight knitting wool is a blend of 45% Peruvian baby alpaca, 35% superfine, organic Falklands Merino wool and 20% Mulberry silk.

Whitbarrow Alpaca fingering yarn has been dyed in the Scottish Borders in a wide range of solid colours.   Lady’s Smock is a very, very pale mauve, with a hint of pink.

This yarn is super-soft and is ideal for knitting shawls, scarves.  It is light-weight yet cozy and is great for knitting tops that you will wear next to your skin.

This yarn knits to Fingering or Sock weight knitting patterns, (but always knit a tension swatch).  There are approximately 400m per 100g.  The yarn is sold in 100g hanks.  If you would like us to ball your yarn for you, please make a note on the order.

How about?

  • The Amelie jumper knitting pattern is designed by Gudrun Johnston and knitted in fingering weight yarn.  The garment is worked from the bottom up in one piece, uniting the sleeves and body at the underarm and working the yoke using a Simultaneous Set In Sleeves construction. The neckline is then finished with an I-Cord Bind off with ties.

    Sizes: 30.5 (33, 35.5, 37.25, 39.75, 42.25, 44,5, 47, 49.5, 52) inches round chest.  Recommended to be worn with 1-2 inches of negative ease.

  • A fine lacy scarf handknitted in pure alpaca.  Knit this Rosebud lace scarf in Town End Pure 4ply alpaca or Fingering weight weight yarn.

  • This knitting pattern is for a lacy top using Town End Sock yarn.

The pattern is by Susan Crawford Vintage and uses Fenella 2ply wool but also knits to tension with the same needles using Whitbarrow Alpaca with Merino and Silk Fingering weight yarn.

  • Ishbel is a simple shawl pattern that can be worked in two sizes and two different yarn weights. The smaller, 4ply version makes a cosy, but pretty scarf while the larger, 2ply version can be worn as a scarf or draped elegantly around the shoulders. The solid stockinette centre lends simplicity to the design and adds extra warmth when knitted in thicker yarn. Ishbel is edged with a beautiful vine pattern and finished with elegant scalloped points. The shawl begins at the centre and is worked outwards to the edging. working increases at both ends of every row, rather than every second, creates a relatively shallow triangular shawl that makes the perfect shape to wear as a scarf. Either size can of course be worked in either yarn weight.
The small version is approximately 123 cm wide and 37 cm long at the centre. It takes two 50g balls of Town End pure 2ply or 4ply alpaca, or one skein of our sock weight yarn.
The larger version is approximately 168 cm wide and 50 cm long at the centre. It takes three 50g balls of Town End pure 2ply or 4ply alpaca.
