Alpaca and Blue Faced Leicester Wool Worsted Yarn
Westmorland Worsted Yarn – Mustard
‘Westmorland’ is an Alpaca and wool worsted weight knitting yarn. It is our own blend of 50% British alpaca and 50% Blue Faced Leicester wool. It has been plied to give a soft, bouncy, rounded yarn.
This is a British-made yarn, produced from the old county of Westmorland, now part of Cumbria. We collected the Blue Faced Leicester fleeces from farms in Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales and carefully prepared them at Town End (it was one of our final batches of fibre sent off to be spun before we moved to Somerset). We combined this with white and coloured British alpaca fleeces which we painstakingly cleaned of hay and other bits. The fibres have been scoured, carded, combed and spun in Yorkshire.
Westmorland Worsted is available in its natural oatmeal grey and twelve over-dyed shades which give depth to the colour of the yarn. It was dyed in the Scottish Borders.
This yarn knits to worsted or light aran weight knitting patterns, (but always knit a tension swatch). A typical needle size for stocking stitch is 4.5mm needles. There are approximately 200m per 100g and the yarn is sold in 100g hanks. If you would like us to ball your yarn for you, please make a note on the order.
Wash gently by hand or in the wool cycle of your machine with a small amount of non-bio detergent. Do not tumble dry. Some surface residue dye may come out in the first wash, particularly with the deeper colours.
