  • ‘Kalinka’ is a 100% linen yarn produced in Sweden by Holma Helsingland for Karin Oberg.  This yarn comes in a wide range of beatiful jewel and intense colours as well as some more natural shades.  It’s a great yarn for summer tops and I’ve knitted several jumpers in this yarn over the years.  The linen feels a bit stiff to begin with, but it softens up on washing and wearing.

You can use patterns designed for linen with this yarn, or other fingering/4ply patterns – but do check your gauge first.  Bear in mind that you will produce a more open fabric and the drape will be different, so not all pattern designs will be suitable. I typically use a 3.25 or 3.5mm needle over Stocking Stitch with this yarn.

There are approximately 320m per 100g and the yarn is sold in 100g hanks.

I wash this yarn in the wool cycle of my machine with a small amount of non-bio detergent.  I block the garment out to shape while still damp.

  • ‘Thames’ is an Alpaca DK yarn.  We have combined alpaca with Merino wool and silk to produce a DK knitting yarn in an exclusive blend which has been spun for us in the UK.  This luxurious Double Knit knitting wool is a blend of 45% Peruvian baby alpaca, 35% superfine, organic Falklands Merino wool and 20% Mulberry silk.

Thames Alpaca DK yarn has been dyed in the Scottish Borders in seven muted, sophisticated colours along with an undyed option.

This yarn knits to standard double knitting patterns, (but always knit a tension swatch).  There are approximately 225m per 100g.  The yarn is sold in 100g hanks.  If you would like us to ball your yarn for you, please make a note on the order.
